On April 24, 2014, William Hill Plc, the largest bookmaker in the UK, released their Q1 results that revealed significant revenue increases, due in large part to a 142% growth in William Hill Sport mobile operations.
The significant growth among William Hill for mobile came on the heels of the company’s launch of a mobile sportsbook and casino in Italy, coupled with a 39% rise in online sportsbook turnovers.
According to Ralph Topping, chief executive officer at William Hill, his company’s focus on “combining a broad and deep product range with outstanding user experiences and scale investment in marketing continues to deliver tangible benefits” contributed to the positive news.
Rose-coloured glasses?
Notwithstanding the positive investment news coming out of William Hill and William Hill Mobile UK, the company may be viewing their growth and future through rose-coloured glasses.
After being hit by unfavourable football results, William Hill, like many other online bookmakers, reported a loss in adjusted operating profits, and so far, this year the company’s stock has fallen nearly 16 percent.
William Hill also announced the company would be closing 109 of its betting shops in the UK because of a governmental decision to raise taxes from high-stakes betting machine revenues.
The future of William Hill sports mobile
Looking ahead to the rest of 2014, William Hill CEO Ralph Topping said his company’s sites are set on the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.
According to Topping, William Hill for mobile “is well placed to take advantage of the World Cup opportunity…with the most downloaded Sportsbook app in the UK”.
Currently, the William Hill sports app is available on iOS and Android devices. William Hill Mobile also features live sports scores and bets, full user account management and an array of free bets and cashback offers, including a welcome offer for first time mobile users that is worth up to £25.
You can download the app for iPhone and iPad by visiting the App Store, or for your Android devices by searching for William Hill Android from your browser or by visiting mobile.williamhill.com/android.
